Our school farm always looks to the future

The school farm is a 142 hectare mixed and stock farm, growing multiple crops and rearing cows and poultry. Mr Rochegude is the farm manager with the help of 3 farm employees.

About vocational training
  • A typical week for the trainees on the farm : every week, three students attend a vocational training on the school farm (2 students attend and assist for milking and looking after the animals in the morning ; 2 students do the same thing in the evening).
  • A lot of tutorial and practical work during the school year for the students.
  • The school farm is used by any teachers when it is necessary for the students.
Rotation of the crops during the school year 2011-2012 :

  • Wheat: 50.95 ha (or 127 acres)
  • Flax: 11.92 ha (or 29.8 ac.)
  • Oil seed rape / canola: 14.48 ha (or 36.2 ac.)
  • Fodder beet : 7.01 ha (or 17.52 ac.)
  • Forage maize: 22.13 ha (or 55.32 ac.)
  • Pasture : 31.10 ha (or 77.75 ac.)
Poultry husbandry (quality label) :

  • 12,600 chickens a year (in three periods, with 4,200 chickens for each period).
  • They arrive at the farm when they are 1 day old and they leave 12 weeks later.
  • Live weight of the chickens when they arrive at the slaughterhouse : 2.35 kg.
  • Feed conversion ratio: 2.95
Dairy husbandry :

  • 65 milking cows (with Corolle).
  • 70 heifers.
  • ¾ of the herd is composed of the Prim-Holstein breed and ¼ of the Norman breed.
  • 460,000 liters of milk quota sold to the cooperative dairy Senoble and direct selling.
  • An average of 8,150 liters of milk (at 7%) per cow and per year.
  • Protein content: 33.5 gr/liter.
  • Butter fat content: 42 gr/liter.
A lot of investment for the future :
Agroforestry,  turn a part of the Area used for Agriculture into organic farming,  purchase farm implement (a tractor, a vehicle, an automatic system detecting cows in heat and ready to calve via mobile phone).
